I've seen this kind illusion a ton of times, but it rarely works THIS WELL

I've genuinely listened to it like 20 times and decide, on a whim, which one I wanna hear. It's even a different number of syllables which makes it even crazier

In the original clip, it's clearly Barbie--but this clip has a bunch of audio distortion.

I can hear both and its crazy how clearly it it sounds like the one I'm reading.

Also, if I switch mid-word I can hear "Fu- arbie" but not "Ba- uck". Which is neat.

the far/bar example was SO interesting, and it explains why I understand people so much better in person/facetime than I do over the phone, where I constantly mishear what they say :(

I refuse to accept that the og clip said anything other then “oh fuck” because Ken saying “oh fuck” is just so hilarious to me.

This is also probably why short form content with subtitles is more popular

The "'papapapa' while maintaining eye contact with future baby" effect

This is genuinely the best auditory illusion I’ve ever heard

I literally EXCLUSIVELY heard "Oh, fuck" the first time, then rewatched it thinking Barbie, and I ONLY heard "Oh, Barbie"
That shit was insane

What in the hell? I had to swipe back and forth like 10 times. I am flabbergasted

ohhh wait this must be why i keep seeing people saying they can “hear the tv better” when using captions while watching tv

I distinctly heard Barbie both with and without visuals. Then I tried listening for a 5th time just to test the alternative and I'm shook. They really can switch seamlessly!

i think this is really interesting because as a sound designer — even though i still experience the mcgurk effect — i've trained my brain to prioritize the input coming from my ears rather than my eyes when processing sensory information, so I'm almost never really fooled by the dubbed-over-lips trick specifically

Especially as someone with audio processing issues, mouth movements are vital to my understanding of much of conversation.
