Nope. The New Testament authors believed the Old Testament stories of the the Flood, 10 Plagues, Exodus, Wanderings and Conquest to be truly historical, not allegory. But they're myths, as well as most of the characters in them.

Thats one possible perspective but doesn't automatically equal a divine creator. It absolutely doesn't mean atheists 'miss' anything. Sure, there is great recurring patterns in humanity, like the way we treat our environment and each other. You can hardly attribute that to a loving God.
