Hi, are you a gentleman looking to start a new skincare routine? Like all skin, remember that you need the three basic ingredients for the morning, which are the cleanser, the moisturizer, and the sunscreen. And at night, you will need something to help you exfoliate your skin and to hydrate your skin. So let us break down this skin routine for you. A cleanser is something that removes the dirt from your face. So if you have normal to sensitive skin, use a gentle pH-balanced cleanser which is soap-free. If you have normal to oily skin, you can look for face washes containing salicylic acid, glycolic acid, or benzoyl peroxide, which will keep the oiliness at bay. Second step is to moisturize. Even if you have oily skin, your skin needs moisturizer. This moisturizer is going to make sure that the skin stays hydrated and the barrier is not disrupted. When you disrupt the barrier, you start to age faster, you start to develop issues such as pigmentation and acne. So choose your moisturizer like a cream if you have dry skin, like a lotion if you have normal skin, like a gel if you have oily skin. And very, very importantly, please don't skip the sunscreen. Now we have very good gel-based matte finish sunscreen available for men, which can be applied at least two times a day once half an hour before stepping out of the home, reapplied 4 to 6 hours later. This is going to make sure that the skin does not get damaged by the UV radiation as well as the visible light which it is being exposed to on an everyday basis. In the night, you would use the same cleanser to remove the sunscreen and moisturizer which was applied in the morning. Then reapply your moisturizer. Then comes your night cream itself. This night routine is going to be formulated by you and your dermatologist based on what is your skincare need. If you are a young person who has a lot of oil secretion, you may be suggested a niacinamide serum along with the salicylic acid serum. If you are in your mid-30s to 40s, you would be encouraged to use a vitamin C or a retinol-based serum, and once you cross into your 40s, definitely a vitamin C-containing retinol serum and a hyaluronic acid sleep mask to bring the tightness back into the skin. Remember, this has to be complemented with a good diet, exercise as well as fitness routine, and a very normal sleep routine along with stress management.
