Nice to see other people still using these older reels. They're absolutely bombproof and I love the graphics on them!

A stone on the reel which then falls off to make more noise on a take is also a good idea.
I still like using a twig broken in half (but still joined together of course) as a bobbin. I also use fine twigs if i ever need a hair stop, looks more natural to me.

That's how I fished all my childhood when I was still young and put my rods on a stick and lined a piece of foil to see which rod went off❀

I've never used a bite alarm, and I've caught plenty carp, granted I catch river fish only so the run is explosive and my reels have loud ratchets, I've laid rods down in a ditch with the drag set as free as can be allowed, I've propped rods up on a tree as well, I love the simple fishing one can get, it's almost primal in a sense

Always do this stalking.
A good twig works well too depending on the ground hardness πŸ‘Œ

If you can't afford an alarm and 2 bank sticks.... you surelly will not afford a shimano aero and a rod like that......Buy a setup that you can afford.... You can fish for 30 kg carp with a setup that costs 100-150 pounds.... There are bank sticks that cost less than a damn coffee (2 pounds).

When we were kids we used to make a bankstick out of a stick.cast out then pull a bug loop of line between real and first eye pull it to floor and put some tinfoil of our pack up on the line on floor when you get a take the tinfoil flies up to the rod.

Above all, don’t wander off from your rod. Keep close by and be ready to pick up should you get a take. Too many people relying on receivers and 20 yards from their rods.

This only works on soil banks. On commercials they usually have wooden or plastic decks.

Use a bivvy peg or a bank stick if you can't afford bank sticks πŸ€”πŸ€

I used to get 2 forked twigs and a piece of foil as a bobbin! We didn’t have bait runners... the truth is, you need very little to go fishing

I think you mean, if you forget them! Who can’t afford bank sticks/rod rests?!
