Literally lost him when you zoomed out. Seeing camouflage work in real time on me is actually so cool

Maybe you could draw a picture of that horned lizard for promotional purposes for the Thornscrub Sanctuary.

theres something absolutely and amazingly heart melting about hearin a grown man use the scientific name of an animal like an aggressively cutesy pet name

Broooo i started looking at the trees and shrubs and things around my area while i was on a walk. I was just looking at the leaves and wondering about the evolutionary traits and stuff. Meant to come back in 30mins. Came back in 90 LOL. I have now created a notebook to put my polaroid pictures in of the plants i see and write their name, evolutionary traits, how they spread their seeds. Thats all down to you and your videos bro. i finally have an outside hobby that isnt exercising lolol

OMG! I grew up in the 1960's in Simi Valley, CA. Horny toads were everywhere until vast tracts of orange groves were plowed down to build tract houses. 😢

So beautiful, and when I look away, I can't find him again!!! He is so well camouflaged! He is not even moving and with his frilled outline, he looks just like the cracked dirt! When he gets a little baby peyote shape on his back too, to complete his coloring, we will know he has reached "genius!" He is nearly there now!
Loved your podcast! Thank you!

So cool! We used to find Phrynosoma coronatum at a friend's ranch in the hills of Livermore California, as well as roadrunners.

Turns our looking exactly like the ground is a great survival strategy and no wonder you haven't seen them if the ones there blend in like that.

I noticed a few ants around him. That’s what they eat… in fact, the native ants are almost gone here in Southern California, because of the landscaping from the suburbs introduces so much moisture that the mega colonies of Argentinian ants, which like the water, have completely displaced the larger native ants …which is why you no longer see the “Horny toads” here, unfortunately. But I remember seeing them when I was a kid here.

That's the best part of a close look at things. You see something wild and new every time. Most people never experience that.
