Mike Piazza was not the last pick in the 1988 draft. There were 75 rounds back then and you could stop drafting players in any round u want. He was the Dodgers last selection in the 62 round but the draft went on to 75 rounds. The NYY were the only team to take a player in the 74th and 75th round but alot of teams still took players in the 63rd round.

Also worth noting that if you combine the next two teams in all time ROTY wins (Braves 9, Yanks 9) they still only tie the amount the Dodgers have won all time at 18

The Dodgers had a core comprised of those five Rookie of the Year winners but they only had two NLDS appearances to show for it

Raul Mondesi, my favourite player growing up. Those Dodgers teams weren’t the best but they were fun watching as a kid at Dodger Stadium.

I live in Bakersfield, CA and back during this time when I was a kid we had the Dodgers Single A team here. We called em the B Dodgers. I saw every single one of these guys come up through there it was so cool. Raul Mondesi was the most impressive dude I could watch him throw a baseball over and over!

Couldve had a repeat streak in the 2010s. Joc Pederson, 2015, Corey Seager, 2016 (won), Cody Bellinger, 2017 (won), Walker Buehler, 2018.

I grew up in LA during this time and to hear those names listed off like that was like a time machine. All those ROY amounted to a hill of beans though.

It could have been 6 in a row if they had brought Adrian Beltre up a little sooner in 1998

Fun fact on streaks of 5... The Dodgers are the only team to run out 5 straight Cy Young winners. Drysdale Koufax Chance Koufax Koufax Atlanta came close. Glavine (Maddux)* Maddux Maddux Maddux Smoltz (Martinez) Glavine Unfortunately the streak is broken in two spots- once by Maddux as a Cub, before he came over to Atlanta, and then by Pedro, but 6 out of 8, and if they'd gotten Maddux a year earlier it would have been 7 out of 8 with a 6 year run. Of course, LA's run was more impressive because MLB only gave one Cy Young, not one for each league, for the first 4 years of that 5 year run. Arizona had a 4 year run, all on the back of Randy Johnson. In the AL Baltimore managed to win half the AL Cy Youngs in the 70s. Only Toronto managed two win 3 in a row in the AL, with Pat Hentgen, and two Roger Clemens wins.

They also lead the league in ROY…don’t be surprised if Yamamoto is added to that list.

I used to sign Mondasi on the old MLB games cause he would always hit 30-35HR in my 5 spot.
