Good tip, thanks very much. If you want to work it out in your head, then you can ignore this. But when you've cut to the wrong length because you didn't double-check, that's when you're an idiot.

Tape measure slide rule like it. Also teach people to do it in the head. Round the 37 up to 40 a mo (so error of three). 120 - 40 is 80. Ok we have taken a bit too much off so add on the error of 3 to get 83. Cross check by adding 37 to 83 to get back to 120. It's really good to visualise the magnitude of the numbers so like the tape trick as it helps teach you that, and good at the end of the day when fatigue and errors creep in.
