When I first saw the movie Crossroads, I couldn't believe what I was hearing. The infamous Eugene's Trick Bag duel part blew me away and had me glued to the screen hitting rewind 100 times on the family VHS player. And each time, I would turn around, mouth open, to ask my unsuspecting parents if they could believe anyone could play like that. Shortly thereafter, my mom came home with a little magazine/booklet on Steve Vai, put together by an Italian guitar magazine. Lo and behold, on page 33 was the notation for the Crossroads piece. I spent countless hours every day playing the same 4 notes until I could play them perfectly, then moved on to the next 4. Then I would go to sleep, and dream of playing the same 4 notes even faster and cleaner. Yes, I was a strange kid...
