Haiku has kireji (-)
Because we don't have words that mark the pause in text like in Japanese.
So kireji (-) is use to mark the pause
Kigo (a word that describe an season)
Infinitive time or present only
No use of capital letters with exemption like cities, constellation...
(I also saw exemption to this in english)
Not necessarily use of 17 syllables.
It can be made an exception if it good (16 or 18 syllables are accepted)
Also haiku has rhythm in Japanese.
Only one verb
The 7th Suruga Baika Literary
Festival, Japan, 2005,
Award winning haiku
Shooting star from the dark -
a moment of deep silence
between the crickets
Worte by Eduard Țară
This is how a good haiku looks.
Basically you create too distinct text that at first seem that have no connection one with another devided by a pause (kireji/-) that togheder come along to say something. Presenting a moment of reality, an instant of it. All this while using all the rules above. Writing good haiku takes skill.
