Empty grain cars get rushed back towards the US midwest from Seattle by EMD SD45's in this quick video, taken on Burr Stewart's 1973-era HO scale model railroad layout. They take a dangerous path across his famous "rainbow bridge" without incident. Be very afraid of falling! :)

The model locomotives are by ScaleTrains, and Burr took the video with an iPhoneX and edited and narrated it using DaVinci Resolve on a MacBook Pro.

Burr's HO/HOn3 model railroad is set in the BN's Seattle region in 1973, three years after the 1970 corporate merger that created the Burlington Northern (BN) Railroad out of the Great Northern (GN), Northern Pacific (NP), Burlington Route (CB&Q) and the Spokane, Portland and Seattle (SP&S) railroads. Playing smaller roles on the layout are the three-foot narrow gage (HOn3) D&RGW fictitious "west coast extension", the Milwaukee Road (MILW)'s western extension and the Union Pacific (UP).

Oh wow the rainbow bridge must cause quite a few white knuckles when crossing it! 😅. Nice job.

Echoes of a bygone era... would've loved to see that in real life! All that remains now up here on the North Branch is a couple green GP38s and a GP40...

I'm not a layout builder, but could some of the plexiglass clubs used to keep the public from touching the layout also keep the train on rainbow bridge?

As an aside, your layout is incredible; certainly one of the most interesting!

Are those ScaleTrains SD45's?

Those are SD45s not SD40-2s. The flared radiators are the distinctive trait of the SD45

Almost looks real - a little more practice with your camera and some decent editing and you’re away! Start adding some dry painting techniques to show wear and tear and you’d have people fooled
