I definitely would've done it different. I would also bevel the top after capping it. I do agree with using nothing but quads.

I keep doing your tutorials and every time I use subdivide at the end, my top and bottom of the mesh have spider net geometry but yours are always sharp/smooth...

Why do you need to join the vertical edges at the top side of the cylinder? Its already a perfect flat quad, doesnt that just a unecessary hit to performance?

You can also just cut erase faces etc but instead of diing all that other stuff just insert the face keep it close then add supports on the sides and sub divide
