I grew up in the first town on the US side south of Winnipeg. There's some law where American transmitters couldn't blast into Canada. The only station we could get was 92citi out of Winnipeg. Cory Hart. Rush. Ozzy. Rush. Rush. Our lady peace. Rush. Rush. Maybe Ozzy. Rush. I hated Rush so bad. Love them now. All we wanted was Soundgarden at the time.

As a kids in Australia, those laws forced us to listen to bands like the Easybeats, AC/DC, the Angels, Skyhooks, Cold Chisel, and Rose Tattoo, instead of mainstream American crap.

Australia has a similar thing here, and it actually has probably been a good benefit to our music industry (although aside from Rush we have the better bands here. 😜

Gleennnnnnn that is why I loved 102.1 out of Toronto, I would get OLP, Big Wreck, Tea Party, Sloan, USS. There are so many Amazing Canadian Bands. Of course I was listening through the late 80s and 90s .

Isn’t the fact that Alice Cooper was produced by Canadian Bob Ezrin a reason why they got good airplay in Canada? I live in the US on the Canadian border and make no mistake our classic rock radio station is aimed at Ottawa. It has advertising and weather for the Canadian listeners.

Here's the real and true reason why I hate the whole emo and goth scene and I'm gonna start from the very beginning. It all started back when the bands MC5 and Black Sabbath were formed starting punk and metal. Throughout then to the mid 80's , they were both already frowned upon by media. Later on someone in the 90's decided to mix rap with metal and rock completely destroying it and blaming it on grunge just because you don't see guys who have big poofy hair wearing your sister's makeup and putting on your mom's pants as attractive anymore but off topic. As you know, goth and emo didn't exist in the 80's. Parents obviously didn't know how to treat their kids in the mid 90's-early 2000's so all they did was fucking wine about it. Soon people put a label called emo on it being short for emotional because they were all depressed. Goth was just new wave that was already on the radio anyway which all the preps were listening to anyway so the goths we're the freaks who wanted to be like and just as popular as the preps but somehow failed at it successfully somehow. Suddenly that became popular and metal really went to shit because the emos were the wannabes of metal and so punks, metalheads, goths, and emos were all lumped into one category making metal and punk even more frowned upon in media and society. Thanks to all the emos now, metal isn't even noticed at all anymore til Stranger Things Season 4 so thanks a lot and fuck you to The Super Duffer Bros. So now I'm either called Eddie Munson or emo and I fucking hate it.

Gordon Lightfoot was amazing, easily one of THE best (and a top fave for me, saw him twice), but Canadian radio should be playing Razor, Sacrifice, Voivod, April Wine, even pop like A. Nova and Loverboy doesn't suck! Lesser-known like Honeymoon Suite had moments too. But my fave canuck has to be Nash The Slash, keep it weird.
