because he is a learner and his entire focus is on operating the vehicle and looking at the road. he has no spare bandwidth for anything else and no experience.
an experienced motorist can pick out unusual things like pedestrians approaching, water on the road, a potential accident and even empty wheelie bins suggesting garbage truck ahead, because they have already mastered the basics and have gained some experience.

As a beginner driver you just have to be a tiny bit more cautious. Slowing down at any cross walks bc there COULD be a car, tree, pole, anything blocking a part of your view, I would rather much stop traffic for a few secs than accidentally hitting someone. Iโve been studying the laws of the road for years before actually getting in a car and driving and let me just say it has helped soooo much and watching dash cam videos on here has been veryyyy educational.

The right pillar progression was at the same relative speed of the pedestrian walking speed. This goes for all moving traffic, and all car pillars. It occurs when there is a direct positive correlation with your vehicle speed and the external traffic/pedestrian speed. It can occur going forwards as well as in reverse.

Because the passing car covered the pedestrian, then the right pillar blind spot, then he went on to check the left of the junction
