This made me so happy I almost started to cry. I have EDS (with POTS, MCAS, whole nine-yards) as well as type one diabetes, CRPS (both types 😭) and some fairly intense anxiety, depression and PTSD. Also had skin cancer as a teen, but that’s neither here nor there.
I’ve always had very challenging reactions to all anesthesia and analgesia medications. Everything from taking 4 hours to wake up from conscious sedation, to developing acute toxic encephalopathy after articane injections for a dental procedure. No doctors have ever listened to me when I warn them. Each time I am given anything, I try in vain. So it truly means the world to see such a caring, knowledgeable doctor spread this info!!

Thank you for including us rare zebras with EDS! Terrified of surgical procedures specifically because of the lack of education regarding the complexity of the often clustered comorbidities. I tore after my first child (pre-EDS diagnosis of course), and not only did I feel the anesthetic injections for the sutures but I felt EVERY LAST STITCH. I stopped advocating and just grit my teeth and dealt with the pain after the third injection and then not believing that I could still feel everything. And yes, that was a completely unmediated childbirth-baby came too fast, no time for anesthesia.

I have a very severe case of gastroparesis . I’m constantly sick to stomach and can’t hardly eat. I had a gastric stimulation unit placed in me years ago as a trial test patient and now it’s stuck inside me rotting through my stomach and they stopped the program without even letting anyone know and no option to have removed either. I had to have 4 post surgeries to fix a bunch of different issues with it during the trial including one being literally shocked here and there by the loose wires but now it’s stuck in me and battery completely dead and causing a lot more problems and can’t find anyone to remove it. Also on top of it you can’t have MRI’s done and there is so many reasons why I need a mri that ct scans don’t show 😩🤯

You are such a great doctor. It shows Thats it both an identitet and passion. You are so confident and oooose of any patient Can be safe and Secure in tour hands. We put our own lifes in the hands of doctors. We are sometimes in so much pain agony that we suffer so much and we are not sure that we recover snd wake up again after surgery. But we do it anyway. You make it Seem so effortlessly. As though. “ NAAH EVERY DOCTOR CAN DO THAT” But no. Every doctor Cant. YOU CAN

This makes me feel so much less anxious about surgeries oh my god ... I never knew that there were implements in place for people like me with EDS and POTS :) I've been fear mongered a bit with my EDS, being told that I might wake up in the middle of a surgery and feel everything. This helps clear some stuff up, thank you!

I can't take Reglan or phenothiazines anymore. I've had bad reactions to both Reglan and Compezine that did nerve damage. I was almost 15 when I had a dystonic reaction to Compezine after having my wisdom teeth surgically removed. My oral surgeon wouldn't change my pain meds when they were causing nausea and vomiting. He prescribed Compezine for the nausea. Two weeks later, my mom was calling 911 because I was having a dystonic reaction. The ER told us no more phenothiazines. Twelve years later, dealing with kidney issues and the pain causing nausea. Doctor prescribed Reglan. I took it regularly for 2 months then the tremor and stutter showed up. Speech therapy helped with the stutter, but the only thing that controls the tremor is metoprolol. I am extremely cautious about anti-nausea medication now. My body also doesn't handle epinephrine like most people's can. My body is just weird when it comes to medications.

I told the anesthesiologist he had my permission to restrain me because I've been told my RLS (restless leg) is out of control when unconscious.
He gave me an uncomfortable laugh and said okay.
After the procedure, in recovery, the surg nurse came by and said, " You weren't kidding about that Restless Leg!" Lol
It took awhile, but my RLS was finally cured after multiple (4-5) iron infusions.
Because Fe infusions can be dangerous, the amt infused at one time is small. Followed by blood work that has to be sent off usually.
If you've tried everything for RLS consider Fe infusions.
Thanks for your channel. I always learn something interesting. ❤
