Carol, what is your opinion on this because I've thought about this for years. I grew up mormon and I believed in Jesus, although now I know it was false doctrine but I did believe Jesus died, was buried and rose again. So, I thought the mormon church was a win win and there was no way I could lose because if the mormon church was true, I'd win and if it wasn't true I'd still win because I believed in Jesus. So I've had many heated disussions with my family members and they can't hear me if I say "Believe in Jesus and you'll be saved." Because they say WE DO BELIEVE IN JESUS! I have to add that they have the wrong Jesus and they're not saved by works which they flat out don't understand what being under the law is because they spend time feeling guilty for not reading the boring book of mormon that they don't even think about cracking open the bible. But being saved isn't even an issue for them because they think Jesus saved everyone but they have to work for a level of exaltation. It is a hard nut to crack. So I think about how I was saved and first I had to see the hypocracy in the mormon church and fell away from it (feeling like a heathen), then I believed in a generic God that just loved everyone no matter what and that everyone just went to heaven if they believed in whatever religion, I experimented with Zen, then I considered being athiest for a short time, then finally I pleaded with God to tell me his opinion as I was feeling like a wretched unworthy person with no captain of my ship and finally it was the statement about Jesus' righteousness being imputed to me for past, present and future that literally changed me. I had to realize I was hopeless without him and finally the cross meant something. I was literally changed and had more keen discernment. I mean I was apologizing to God for naming my cat Wicked and being such a Harry Potter fan type thing. Then I devoured the bible because I was hungry for Truth. So seeking God and being born again is important, it's about the incorruptible seed that gets planted on fertile soil but it's hard to explain to anybody because people have interpretations of believing in Jesus and being born again.
