evil; “EVIL” is the twelfth track on PORTALS by Melanie Martinez. The first snippet circulated on March 10th, 2023 when Atlantic Records sent an edible egg with a USB in it with a snippet of the track. Later, on March 18th 2023, Melanie performed the full song live in Lollapalooza, Argentina.

The song is about Melanie realizing the toxicity in a relationship of her past, and, how she is proud of leaving them. “EVIL” has an instrumental that consists of a light-pop fused with synth rock elements—similar to the rest of the tracks on PORTALS. = abuseive ex's

playdate: “Play Date” is a song that paints a picture of adult situations within childlike settings. It tells the story of Cry Baby feeling like she’s nothing more than a friend to someone who seems to care very little about her, even though they get together quite often.


She wishes she didn’t care about how little he communicates or how much she has to chase after him, but by the end of the track, she admits that she values their playdates and does care = wishing sombody liked you back

notebook: On “Notebook”, Melanie Martinez ends an unfulfilling relationship with some snarky advice to her lover for his future relationships. = bad realonships

pity party: “Pity Party” revolves around Cry Baby getting upset because nobody came to her party, resulting in an emotional breakdown and haveing female rage = lonieness + female rage

bittersweettrady: The song has a soft, mellow and dreamy touch it. It’s a song with a soft presence then builds up to it’s strong presence. Melanie Martinez shows off her outstanding vocals along with her beautiful stretching notes = haveing a playing lover
