Is this what a well funded school is like? seems fun

Reminds of when we built popsicle bridges in highschool for class and tested to see how much weight they could take

Till this day, we don't know did Pippa pressed F to pay respect, or F for the grade of the student

Also look how the tower didn't topple over, the forces done by the ground was so much it actually broke the foundations

This is probably a curriculum with a science teacher who uses a very applied approach. Excellent.

For those curious what happened these boys are incredibly smart. They used a wood that was able to flex for their main structure and constructed it in a way that the frequency of the vibrations in the material was synonyms with the frequency of the quaking. Since they were in sync there was no visible shaking in the building and this is a real technique engineers use when designing skyscrapers.

reminds me of when schools taught kids instead of just babysitting future convicts.

They should have done the experiment while playing Jenga for hard mode

Ok but this is actually an incredible way to teach about earth quakes and building structures at the same time

Engineering student here! This is called modal frequency analysis. It's like pushing a swing at the right moment, causing it to go higher and higher. The exact opposite happened here: the external force wave and the resonant wave of the building canceled each other out. That's also how noise canceling headphones work. Basically, vibrations can be dangerous if they're at the right frequency. In fact, vibrations can cause the screws on an airplane can unscrew themselves if you're not careful! This same phenomenon is also how you can break glass with sound

Me, living in a seismically active country: "F is indeed the right expression".

This is most likely a high-school Engineering class. I had a similar lesson learning about how skyscrapers are built! The steel structure has to be suspended on shock absorbers like a car to absorb earthquake damage. Each of us had to build our own little skyscraper using nothing but popsicle sticks and glue. Fun stuff!

Lots of people I know used to say that they hate science but I always thought it was neat. Especially when we did experiments like this.

I love how everyone just decided at some point in their life that you have to say 'blbllblblbloopl' whenever you mess up a word.
