The key part in this is "but the 1 and only son, who is himself god."
The verse is saying that no man alone has seen god. But to jesus, who is god, has shown himself to man AS US. For god is in all living things, and to know jesus is to know and see god.

Those 2 passages isn’t even a contradiction at all.
Since no one can see God (John 1:18), yet Jesus sees the Father and does what He does (John 5:19), it follows that Jesus is not separate from God—But that he is God.

It really is so simple. She didn't actually want him to be able to answer. Jesus is God. God told Moses he can not show him his face cause he would die. Thats why people couldnt see him until Jesus. So its not a cantradiction but rather she misinterpreted it
