I’m sure they’re using OSU as an example because they won the National Championship, but most of their NIL budget was spent retaining their existing roster, not buying portal players. So I’m not sure if it’s sustainable, but it may not be necessary because you won’t always need to pay 6-8 guys to pass on the NFL and return for one more year.
If you want to talk about anyone, talk about Oregon who had to buy 13 or 14 guys from the portal, outbid all the top schools for many of their recruits and still not win the National Championship- is that sustainable? I know Phil Knight has deep pockets, but can he keep paying $25 million a year for his team to NOT win it all?
