Yeah.. Iv got this in my family’s history too.. My grandad.. Sunderland boy.. At 12 he started working in the shipyards.. By 18 he’d had enough of carrying sacks of shipping rivets from one side of the yard to the other and joined the army. He left the army around 32-33 I think.. His last role was as a drill Sargent in a military prison.. His nickname was “The Bas….d” When he left and moved down to Keighley to be with his wife (My Nana Heckles) He started a door firm.. He and my uncle Ernest (His brother) ran the doors of many pubs in the area.. Just a walkie talkie.. Call Harry if you get any bother and they’ll be there soon type of thing..One of their “incidents” got in the local paper.. A Hillman Imp was found wedged on 2 wheels between a lamppost and a phone box.. The driver didn’t know how it got there apparently. I wonder if he remembered giving lip to a man that was 6ft7, 26 stn and his “little brother” when he was asked to park it away from the door of the pub 🧐🤷🏻♂
