They take so long to come up from the ground to breed and then have such a short life ,I think they are a beautiful insect

I've seen these emerge only to be immediately overtaken and eaten by ants. The reason cicadas come out in such large numbers is because they are such easy prey - they have to survive by beating the odds and coming in such high numbers that even if over half of them die, there will still be plenty to mate and carry on the species.

The Cicada’s will be “Singing tonight. I’m 71 years old now, but I remember as a little boy when they emerged and “Started Singing, the noise would be so loud that you couldn’t even hear anything else! That was down in East Texas.
