This is the F-Chromatic scale played on Marimba. He did 180 bpm sixteenth notes. Or 360 bpm eighth notes. Overall pretty impressive for a high school player!

I feel like everyone who’s commenting on him being choked up on the stick doesn’t know actual technique

you can do that when you’re playing fast and don’t care about velocity, you can’t get much weight behind your strokes but you can play faster it’s a trade off - I’m even using that technique for a piece rn

The fact that he is playing so fast with that technique is incredible, some simple rebuilding and I bet he would be even faster! Keep up the good work!

8th notes in 360 from the looks of it, or double strokes maybe. This is like 180 bpm sixteenths, challenging but not impossible. Still very impressive on marimba, especially with softer mallets

Use good technique and you will actually be able to play fast. You’re too choked up on the mallet, gripping too tightly, using too much arm. If we were referencing sixteenth notes, one should be able to play at about 200-210 bpm or about 400-420 bpm for your reference with good technique.
