Big holes in steel requires slow speed, good pressure down, and some cutting/machining fluid. A lot of people don't realise that a lack of pressure will burn the drill bit.

Yep, drilling through steel needs low speed and high pressure. High speed will burn up a drill bit quick. Low speed will keep you bits alive and sharp for far longer

drilling like all metal cutting is just a case of surface speed. for small drill you need to spin it faster to get right surface speed for larger one you can go slower

Decent quality bit's are essential for best drilling of steel, Get Cobalt HSS and look at the tip before you buy! Uneven tip angle or inconsistent across the box or off centre tip etc. = Garbage don't waste your money. There is an amazing amount of Crap out there at suprisingly high prices, ideally get industrial brands not consumer brands will cost more but last way longer.

And lubricants help not only to cool but also extend the life of the drill bit.

Absolutely. Speed is calculated 8000rpm/mm. So 10mm drill reqs. 800 rpm.
