Lot of kinks to straighten out in them early days of combat aviation. Thankfully we only had 2 conflicts to sort that out

And who can we blame for loosing the fleet aviation to the RAF? Beatty ofc, bc he didn't fuck up enough in WW1

Its a good thing it was transferred as well. Fighting between military branches caused severe issues in a lot of countries. Particularly the rivalry between the japanese army and japanese navy.

And tragic situations where the RAF couldnt be depended on such as the destruction of force Z were at least few and far between because the navy at least controlled their own carrier aircraft.

The RAF possibly wouldnt have green lit attacks like the raid on taranto had they been in control of the aircraft as they wouldve wanted to conserve aircraft after the battle of britain.

True and part of the reason behind the transfer to the naval command was due to ww2 breaking out as many of the aircraft would have had zero ability to communicate with the airbases back in Britain etc so it became necessary for the orders to go through naval command

Em actually 🤓 originally it was the Army Royal Flying Corp (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) . They were merged on April the 1st 1918. To form the royal air force (RAF

Little fin fact, the second picture you show. Is an Auster (I believe a Mk IV) and I’ve actually been in the last remaining one for a taxi. Amazing plane with an astounding history. But I think all of those were crewed by members of the royal artillery regiment because they were used for artillery spotting. The crews who flew them only had one wing instead of two which the raf had.

I think that's wrong, I may be wrong but from my understanding the army air Corp and the fleet air arm came before and helped create the raf. That's why the junior ranks are army based and the officers have rings like the navy.
