You are talking with Boult founder about R&D? Businesses like Boat/Boalt/ Noise etc are doing almost NO R&D. Just importing products from China and selling them at at least 6-7x the margin. Probably more. Basically White Labelling.

There are very few companies in India who are successful with fully their own R&D. Aether is one of them.

When a company captures the market with sub-par products. In the start people buy because they can get a product within their budget category. When they want to upgrade they choose to move to the next tier. That's when a company with a good product will capture these quality concious customers

Classic case is Apple. Warren Buffett particularly brought the shares of apple because they could selling their products with minimal R&D and administration cost.(One of the reason why iphone dont change that much every year)
On other hand newer products are released from R&D where the sales arent that high as the iphone, basically cash cow iphone is given little attention while other products are given more attention, imac, M series chips, visionpro,etc.
