For real, I kinda want to see how this new take on the Joker works. I can see the idea, but I feel people are very used to a simple idea that wasn't performed in TDK. Regardless of who plays him, I am always curious to see how a certain idea of a well-known character can be portrayed.
Like I have mixed feelings about Tommy Lee Jones's portrayal of Two-Face, but I wasn't angry about it.

Jared Leto played a 2015 version of the Clown Prince of Crime, aka a 2015 Golden age Joker. Alotta people do not know comic books and have had their idea of the joker defined by Heath Ledger who played the Bronze age Homicidal maniac Joker. They are the same character but they have greater affinities for different things. Leto's Joker was an actual crime boss with henchman, cars, money, and an actual organization. Ledger's Joker was an anarchist.

There are parts of it I dont hate. I think the Gator skin coat is okay, even if they missed the easy gag of having Killer Croc comment on it. Some of the tattoos have cool designs, but I dont like them as tattoos. Jared has really piercing eyes, abd theyre genuinely unsettling without eyebrows. I love the slicked-back hair, the naturally pape skin, and the black tuxedo he wore to pick up Harley. It was cool to see him in outfits that werent just the classic purple suit, but none of them quite measured up to it. Anthony Gilardi criticized the performance by saying "he got lost in playing Joker and forgot to build the character. He made no stromg choices. Am I going to be unsettling in a menacing way, in a playful way, a seductive way?" If he chosen to play Joker one way and stuck to it, I feel like we'd look back on this performance more fondly. I personally liked the idea of him bejng more playful, like Klaw from Black-Panther. Harley could have found that charming, audiences would have found that entertaining, and his enemies would have been afraid yet drawn in by the fact he acts like he loves all the evil things hes doing. Also if he wasn't. You know... who he was.

The original suicide squad was not a good film and even the best actors can only do so much with bad writing. From also what I'm aware a lot of the film was heavily edited so even if there were some good performances from Leto, we will never get to see them.
Also, since Joaquin Phoenix took over the role, I did start to actively hate Leto's performance. Phoenix is a very serious actor and you never hear him doing things like sending his co-stars dead animals for shock value. He keeps to himself and you know him from his performances. Not his backstage antics

This is not a good argument. I totally agree that a new take on a character is fine. In fact I often argue that the source material isn't always superior and that people need to stop being so attached to the source material because often times change is needed to make it better but even with that in mind Jared lets joker still sucked. Him being a new version has nothing to do with it at least for me.

I have no idea what "different taste" even means, Jared Leto simply is a prick huffing his method actor gas to an absurd degree.
