A dry throat can be a sign of either dehydration during the day, but typically when people wake up with a dry throat, it's usually a sign that you've been breathing through your mouth at night. Now the nose is made to humidify the air and keep your throat warm and cool and moist. But if your nose is blocked up, what happens is you end up breathing through your mouth at night, and you wake up with a dry throat.
Some of the most common causes for your nose being blocked are either anatomical issues, like a deviated septum or inferior turbinate hypertrophy, or even nasal polyps or sinusitis.
But one of the most common causes of your nose just not working the way it's supposed to is environmental allergies. That means you're getting things in your nose that irritate it, it causes swelling, and you end up breathing through your mouth and you end up with a dry throat.

thank you so much! I have a dry throat always on one side. I also have a deviatied septum on that same side.

sometimes that one side feels swollen and dry like I'm choking.

as of now I cannot afford the surgery and I have been using breathe right strips daily for months. is there something else that would help?

Is it possible to have this issue when you’re still breathing from your nose? Because I can feel the cold breeze in my throat right at the dry feeling when I take a breath. It’s so uncomfortable to breathe right now that I can’t sleep. It’s 5:22am now.

This is exactly what happened to me my nose has been stuffed up and its to the point where when i lay on one side i can breathe but the problem is that i move in my sleep so it is hard to not wake up with a dry throat when allergies come 🤷🏾

Whenever I choke on water, I sometimes feel like it gets stuck in my throat
Like let’s just say I choke on water right, once I’ve cleared my throat, I feel like there’s water stuck somewhere at the back of my throat, which makes me cough and it never comes out, I’ve had this for a day now, and I need an answer 😭🙏

Thank you so much. Last night I had a blocked nose (I have a dust allergy) and I started breathing from my mouth not knowing it would affect me. Today I woke up with a dry throat and never thought anything of it. I started drinking lots of water but it didn’t help at all. I Gold my mum and she said it’s because I was eating too many sweets and candy but I had only eaten about 4 pieces of candy(small ones aswell so it wasnt even much) so I was a bit clueless. I didnt respond when she said that of course knowing that if I did she would go against what I was saying so I just left it. I came on to YouTube and funnily enough, this came up on my fyp. Thank you so much for this. It helps and I definitely will be unblocking my nose instead of breathing from my mouth. Any tips on unblocking ur nose?
