Did you know people once made art using fish skin instead of paper? Long before brushed touched paper or silk. A special kind of art born made from the skin of fish. Over 2,500 years ago, the Hezhen people in China used fish skin not just to survive but to create. What started as a way to make clothes and tools, became a beautiful way to tell stories. Each piece of skin cleaned, softened and dried. Next, the dried skin is place on rough and dusted with cornmeal to remove extra oil and moisture. Then it's pressed with a wooden tool until soft. Once flexible, shapes are marked, cut out, and ready to stitch, cottons are added inside to give it shape and make it puffy. Then it's glued onto a frame to hold it in place. The end result is a delicate flower full of life and meaning. Each little scale is like a word in a silent story. #fishskin #fishskinturnsintoart #artinancienttimes
