But that actually IS what these people think, that's the part that's hard for a lot of people to wrap their head around. They deem anything that tips the balance from the status quo - however slight - a threat to the way things SHOULD be in their world view.

Short story time, I used to be in charge of painting the windows at my work for the seasons and this past Christmas I decided to do a Muppet Christmas Carol because I thought it would be nice to remind people to not be assholes… my employer told me that was not “traditional Christmas”, and washed them off and decided to pay someone else to do teddy bears decorating a Christmas tree. I will never regret that the last window I painted was a reminder of people to be nice to each other. But damn, these people. Heaven forbid we actually teach others to be decent human beings.
