I know all of this, of course, and I always save my
Alocasia (and caladium) containers, however long they liveā¦ but what to do if the stump seems to have disintegrated as well? Iām literally āstumped.ā Wah wahā¦ bc Iām digging in the TINY pot that itās in but all Iām finding is potting medium. No corms. š Wouldnāt be the first time, lol. And I mean, not even the original, āmotherā corm is present! No mushiness or rot. No foul
smell. Just disappeared completely. Youād never know Alocasia was in this container! So weird! The main corn is gone, let alone any offshoots or new ones. From a 4-5ā tall A. odora plant with multiple offshoots, leaves the size of a plate; to now just plain soil leftā¦ I didnāt do anything differently. I live in coastal So Cal, 20 minutes from Mexico, where they should be fine, right!? And still theyāre needy! So anybody who has issues with them living anywhere else that experiences real seasonsā¦donāt feel bad ā they donāt even grow where theyāre āsupposedā to grow the ābest.āš¤£

Struggling with my alocasias. Currently trying to prop my corms in stratum, for the first time. Will def try to put my struggling alocias in stratum to rescue them, thank you Melissaā¤. Which other plants have you propped in stratum?

I was thinking about storing my regular frydek and gageana Aurea in my basement dormant for the winter.

You can put corms loosely in a mason jar with sphagnum moss, close the lid and they will grow roots. My neighbor did it and gave it to me two weeks ago. I put them in the same red, sand-like fast-draining soil for bird of paradise and majesty palms and now, the pollys are unfurling.
