This is a great tip, but I'm gonna put on my "akshually" hat real quick - pre-delay doesn't cut the beginning of the source sound, it delays the whole sound in tact. Longer pre-delay settings exaggerate the sense of "space" or perceived size of the room created by the reverb.
Taking the hat back off tho - still a super useful tip!
