Nah. See the way the sticks on Xbox controller are positioned I s relative to the range of motion of your thumbs. Positioning the left stick above the D-pad makes the D-pad more easily accessible but this comes at the cost of overextending your thumb for the stick which is really bad design because you’re using the stick significantly more often than the D-pad. The added benefit though is for the times you do need to use it you don’t have to do something like crab claw grip on the PlayStation controllers.
None of this matters to casuals but even small things like this make a big difference in competitive gaming. Even things like using semi autos on controllers and having to tap the triggers causes recoil in the controller itself and messes up your aim. This is actually a really big design flaw of the Dualsense controller because unlike the Dualshock, there is more distance to depress the trigger due to the adaptive triggers being implemented. This causes the controller to recoil even more as more force must be applied when pressing the triggers of the Dualsense than the DualShock.

I think it depends a hell of a lot on the way your fingers bend and size of your mitts.
Personally I always found xbox controllers too bulky and unwieldy, usually my joints were moving the sticks not the thumbs. Its a lot easier to claw grip the PS controllers which I found easier with my caveman bear hands 😂

The complex reason for both is that for the Playstation, the original controller has the dpad and buttons up, with no joysticks, but, some time after still during the ps1 era they made controllers with joysticks, would be realy strange to just put the dpad down all of a sudden so the joysticks were putted down, and it became the standart for future consoles after that.
Microsoft on the other hand, before the xbox already made controllers, theyre most famous not xbox one and that was even used as a prototype base for The Duke™ had a analog and buttons up, so when they needed to add a second joystick for the final design, they just slamed the original analog that was for similar to the 360 dpad but with actual analog functions on the bottom left, and a second stick om the bottom right, so they dont alter the original design
