Nintendo vs Palworld UPDATE: This Could Kill Palworld #palworldgameplay #palworldgame #palworld #pokémon #nintendo #nintendosuespalworld #nintendoswitch #pokemonza

Nintendo filed a lawsuit against Pocketpair, citing that Palworld "infringes multiple patent rights" (according to an official corporate news release). This is an important element of the case, as there has long been a legal precedent that game mechanics can't be copyrighted (set by cases such as Atari v. Amusement World), but they can be patented. The lawsuit is seeking an "injunction against infringement" as well as compensation for the alleged transgression.

Capturing, maybe. But flying/riding and battling? Nintendo, what kind of coke are you snorting?

Craftopia existed before the 2021 "Parent Patent". Craftopia had the same game mechanics before Palworld but, more importantly, before the 2021 patent filing.

The fact that Nintendo was even allowed to file those patents is ridiculous beyond words. Going after fan projects that are obviously using the IP is one thing, but are they seriously trying to copyright the concept of mounts!?

wouldnt this cause problems for hunter/fishing/flying games then. "oh you tame dragons in this game and ride them? thats nintendo copyright you cant do that!"
I genuinely detest nintendo at this point, I dont understand why there is so many people who practically sacrifice their first born son to that company for their products.

Patent working backwards is just absolute BS.

I don't think they can realistically sue for the idea of catching and riding animals. At most the shape of the catching item would need to change

What about digimon? Digimon has those mechanics in the shows

Western game designers simply need to make a copy of Palword and Nintendo couldn't do jack. If this does go in Nintendo's favor, it would only be in Japan where their laws allow such bs.

Imagine Patenting Riding or "Mount". that's like, every single motorcycle game in the whole history of mankind could be a target for this BS, and also every game that using Mount as its traversing method. what an absolute d*ck move Nintendo... shame..

This better not clear for Nintendo. This will cause them to monopolize any idea of monster collecting. Also flying and riding monsters has been around for years before Pokémon. In the long run this may hurt Nintendo down the road.
