Martell was always motivated by Melody and stood by him. I believe that she MADE him shine because she was being a real woman with VISION and DRIVE and he couldn't handle it even when whatever she touched turned to gold because of her faith. She trusted that he would be honest and faithful and he tried to break her down. Getting away from Martell happened when told her GO!!!
