As someone who’s appendix nearly ruptured and have had it removed, wish it would disappear sooner… probably in the top 5 most painful experiences in my life

The appendix has a use though.
For example, if you lose all the bacteria in your gut from something toxic you ate, or you develop C. Diff because you took antibiotics, you appendix can save your life by repopulating your intestines with good bacteria and fungi.
C. Diff usually requires medical aid to fully get better due to it having such a strong presence and the need for further different rounds of antibiotics but you live long enough to get medical aid thanks to your appendix.
Without your appendix, the Drs would have to do a scrape and cleanse and then reach up in your asshole to deposit bacterial cultures.

It is actually theorised that appendixes may still have some use for humans.

It's a gut Flora reservoir. I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon while we still use antibiotics.

Appendix is a source of back up microbes for our GIT microbiome and digestion.
And, we have less plant-based diet so the microbe reserve doesn't have to be as large.
Unfortunately, the smaller size makes it more susceptible to adverse events in the case of imbalance and opportunistic infection

Our appendix is not going away. It is the perfect size for our needs. It protects the gut bacteria from diarrhea and diseases. We need it and people who have it removed are more likely to have GI problems.

I'd also like to point out that bodily organs don't just "Disappear" from our anatomy. Anatomy only majorly changes in the event of a mutation, and that change doesn't become widespread unless that mutation provides a tangible enough benefit to greatly increase the survivability, and therefore reproduction rates, of the species.
