Probably both, genetics cause the issue but tight footware exacerbates it and causes the pain/rubbing.

I do partly agree, they can't be fixed with silly correctors. However, if none of the standard shoes are worn, the toe won't be bent inwards. Instead, the foot will just be what it is. A broad foot.
Standard shoes turn a certain foot shape into a disability.
And if the shoes are especially pointy, even people without the predisposition will get a bunion.
I don't have bunions, while all my relatives do. I chose to walk barefoot every day for a couple of hours and refuse to wear tight shoes.

Hiii, love u so muchhhh. You are one reason that inspired to start general medicine next year! I'm just so worried cuz I'll be 37/8 when I finish my specialization, ageism and all that. Feeling anxious about that, and I'm 24 right now, next year I'll be 25 when I matriculate.

What is this? An annoying ad icon blocking part of the text in the video for the very same bunion splint they are talking about?!

Tengo juanetes, vivo cerca de una playa, hace calor todo el aΓ±os, estoy mΓ‘s de la mitad de el dΓa descalza y uso zapatos anchos. En mi caso los juanetes son 100% genΓ©ticos.

My big toes are weird. There’s no bony bump on the side, but my toes do point inward. I think my feet are the result of growing up in small shoes but don’t quite have bunions.

Crocs are the saviour that our feet need. For too long has the humble Crock been disrespected! It is comfortable, durable, lightweight, and does not cause any unwanted pressure on any part of the foot. The Crock is THE greatest shoe of all time. And they are perfect for everyday wear, job interviews, weddings and funerals, as well as bar mitzvahs.

Isn't there a huge correlation between wearing shoes and having bunions

Fun fact! We learned recently that footwear has hell of a lot of impact about the health of our feet. The whole 'it's ONLY genetics, wear that narrow ass shoes! It's fine!' theory was debunked so long ago. Everybody can develop bunions with the wrong footwear.

I’ve had bunions on both of my feet for years. My grandma says β€œyou’re too young to have bunions” but I try explaining to her that age isn’t what causes them.

Collapse of the transverse arch resulting in hallux valgus--Isn't that more of a thing where the bones are the same shapes (at first, as I am sure over time there is wear and tear); they just fit together differently because of the distance of origin and insertion points of connective tissues staying fixed while the transverse foot arch collapses resulting in a reangulation of how bones are angled at the joints rather than the bones themselves being misshapen? So more like a joint deformity than a bone deformity?

Bunions are a lifestyle disease.

Bunions are caused by improper footwear, while genetics may make you more susceptible to them they simply do not occur in populations that do not wear pointed narrow shoes regardless of genetics, this is also why in the west women, who wear narrow pointed shoes more commonly are almost guaranteed to get them through their life.

My niece got a lovely bunion after she broke her toe and it healed wrong while waiting for insurance to approve the surgery to implant the screw. She had to heal her broken toe TWICE. That was a fun experience πŸ˜‚
