Exoplanet Fomalhaut b is moving in a deadly orbit that will lead it directly into a dense asteroid belt. It takes 2,000 years to complete one orbit around its star, but our generation will witness its destruction. Recent observations from the Hubble telescope show that the catastrophe may have already occurred.

Dagon (also Fomalhaut b) is an extrasolar object and possible exoplanet around the star Fomalhaut, located approximately 25 light-years from Earth in the constellation Piscis Austrinus. It was first detected in Hubble Space Telescope images in late 2008, then confirmed in 2012. It is located at the edge of a debris disk, approximately 110 AU from its parent star, and according to 2013 calculations, has an elongated orbit with an orbital period of about 1,700 years.
