Cishet men are so used to being able to go into any place that they like, that the second they're told a place isn't for them they both shut down and fire up at the same time. The cool cishet guys just go 'okay' and carry on with their day, read a book or uninstall League.
...also, the universal queer experience of sitting on a bench with a cactus.

I'm a cis bi woman. I have, in the past, after all the angst of figuring myself out and falling out with my parents over it, then turned to queer spaces and had my feelings hurt. Over not being "queer enough". But that's just it - I had my feelings hurt a bit. That's zero excuse for being hateful. I briefly had a bad response and got very bitter but I was wrong and I ultimately learned to chill out. I'm not centred in queer spaces because I don't need to be centred. And I did eventually find the support I needed in those early days.

I mean, in a way, it's true that we can end transphobia by changing the way we speak. ... and the way we dress, and the way we act, and the medical care we seek, and the communities we involve ourselves in, etc etc. All we have to do to end transphobia is to simply exist quietly, within ourselves, presenting as cis every day. And if someone says something transphobic anyway, well, then it's our responsibility to "not rock the boat" and laugh it off. How are they supposed to know? ๐

I used to be one of those bigoted people that refused to understand anything about gay, transgender, or lesbian people. I saw their quest for equality and rights as intruding upon my own rights, despite the fact that I could not name which rights those were, nor how they were being infringed.
This is all to say that I had to stop listening to fear based rhetoric disguised as religion, then I was able to hear other voices and understand their needs, and get the fuck out of their way in achieving those needs.
Iโm glad I changed my mind. Iโm glad you all exist.

Everytime Willow says "girls, gays, and theys" an angel gets their wings.
