Every time this woman opens her mouth I learn something I didn’t think I needed to know but actually did. Thank you.

Lads I can unfortunately tell from firsthand experience you that she is right and unfortunately on dakrer skin it's harder to see decoration. So while we are at a lower risk compared to light skin we are less likely to find it early. So be safe wear sunscreen and always remember that the aun is a deadly lazer

"Lower than the recommended 30"?

Here in NZ, we start at 50 and often go a lot higher. And even then you still have to be careful.

Melanin peaks in the UVB, but it's still absorbing in the UVA, and a little less in the next longer wavelength violet, and less and less all the way to red, which is why it looks dark brown in the first place. However, Lab Muffin Science put out a video that high energy visible light like violet (and maybe UVA too but not sure) reacts with melanin and produces free radicals, which may damage skin for those with melanin. If true, it would mean that we black folk should not only be using broad spectrum sunscreen, but also sunscreen that blocks visible light as well (like iron oxide).

In general I just avoid sunlight. Wish we still had 24 hour stores so I could do my shopping at 2am.

I have encountered dark skinned people who had sunburn. They would tell me that they had no idea that they could sunburn.

@PBSTerra For balance, could you please let us know the specific chemical composition of the lotion and how it is manufactured from what raw materials? Thank you.

I don't think I have...any melanin. I have to apply SPF of at least 50 at least every 30 min or I'm cooked
