July 2023 Fly Fishing along the Dry River just outside of Hinton Virginia. The river was low but I managed to find a few deeper pools where the fish were congregating. I tried a few dry flies but had no luck. I then switched over to an olive colored green weenie I had tied over the winter and that did the trick. I had to cast from upstream and drift the fly into the pool where I hooked to beautiful brook trout. According to some information I had read online, the Dry River is one of the premier rivers in Virginia for native brook trout. I haven't fished Viginia very much but so far this river has exceeded my expectations. I plan to return again in the fall!

I'd like to also give a shout out to the local fly shop Mossy Creek in Harrisonburg. They are a destination shop if you are in the area! I went a little crazy in their shop, buying hats, shirts, casting shirt, leaders, and a bunch of flies. Super friendly staff and a cool shop dog affectionately named Rio greeted me and my family.
