There is now a plane that emits water instead of fossil fuels.
Known as the HY4, it is a four-seat plane that runs entirely on liquid hydrogen. This is possible thanks to its fuel cells, that convert the liquid hydrogen directly into electricity. The only waste product is water; therefore, so long as the liquid hydrogen comes from a sustainable source, there are zero emissions. In September of 2023. it made its first piloted flight. It managed to stay in the air for 3 hours and has some solid specs; it has a cruise speed of 145 kilometers per hour, max speed of 200 kilometers per hour and, depending on the load and latitude, a range of between 750 and 1,500 kilometers. With continued development, the HY4 could easily be used for urban transport; however, exactly when and how that will occur is yet to be determined.
