If I buy an ice cream that size, it doesn't last long enough for me to conduct such an experiment. The older I get, the more it is not a good idea for me to eat that much ice cream all in one sitting, but somehow I still do.
On a different note, I have a coworker who loves your grapes/monkfruit/lime juice adult version of sweet/sour candy, so thank you for doing that video. I like my coworkers and I like to keep them happy, and the grape thing is so easy to do.

This definitely works for larger containers, particularly after a few servings and weeks. You still get freezer burned ice cream eventually, but even that is soft as it was when you bought it and scoops nicely.
There’s not going to be much difference after a few hours, it’s a long-term storage trick.
And for those of you who say “ice cream never lasts that long at my house“, it’s because you don’t actually like ice cream enough to buy in bulk. Real ice cream lovers wait for a sale and stock their entire freezers. My great grandmother and grandmother would use a knife to slice the entire half gallon of ice cream (cardboard and all) into however many servings there were for the people at the table, and you’d get to enjoy your slab. No leftovers. They lived to 96 and 101.
I figured the plastic bag trick out through trial and error many years ago trying to get the perfect freezer ice cream because it was hard as a rock all the time.

I'd suggest most ice cream hardens up after you have opened it.
Open two new pots, remove some ice cream and retry the plastic bag test. I suspect, when opening the ice cream, you're introducing it to air. When you put the lid back on, it's no longer air tight.
The plastic however reduces the amount of air the ice cream is exposed to.

Ok, for those who didn't knew . All home refrigerators have a temp variation from the deepest zone(Really cold ) to the door (not too cold). Same goes to your freezer. Ice cream goes on that little shelf on your freezer door and in any case if harden ,the best and faster way to scoop it out its just apply slightly heat to your spoon before scooping either with hot water or gas stove. Not talking about red hot burning spoon …Just about 30 sec of heat before scooping. Now if using one of those floor freezer..Just moderate the temp . Ice cream is supposed to stay at certain temp tone easy to scoop out.

I think the problem was that they were both brand new ones. When they’re brand new they’ll always be soft the first time, it’s when you close them back up is when they harden up. I’d love to see a follow up video showing some ice cream taken out before putting them in the freezer. Vanilla ice cream, keep it simple :)
