Instructions unclear, now my tiger is out roaming the park very slowly.

This is exactly why sprint interval training is amazing for testosterone and muscle building. That powerful burst of energy and speed and then slowing down catching your breath increases so much testosterone and also dopamine and really builds the muscle fibres in your body

This is exactly how it is to have small kids... Out of nowhere you have to sprint as if your life depends on it. Except you never get away... I love it

I used to do this with my old Labrador. He loved it and was also very scared of the nothing that was chasing us lol

I figured this out on my own but it's not that complicated it's just that whenever I start having a panic attack I just start exercising vigorously. It works really well because you don't freak out about your heart beating fast anymore because it's beating fast for a reason

Hacking the nervous system through the breath is so cool. I'm a big fan of parasympathetic breathing exercises.

Almost every person in these comments missed his point. This practice is for conquering your fight or flight, so you can do it in the real world. You’re tricking your brain into becoming more confident when it comes to life in general. The more “reps” you get when powering through a fight or flight scenario, the less you’re afraid. He’s saying that your cells are “dumb” because they can’t tell the difference between a tiger and giving a 45 minute presentation. Since society is more hyper stimulating and we aren’t facing as many physical life or death scenarios as we used to, we as humans have unintentionally trained our fight or flight system to be triggered by mental, make or break type forms of adversity, like job interviews, presentations and asking someone out on a date. Which is not what it’s supposed to be used for, only for actual Life or death scenarios

I tried sprinting for the first time in years, blew out my calf, and spent six months doing Physio. Yay!

I work in an office building on the second floor. I often have to walk around our facility campus, and not everytime but about 2/3 of times when I am returning to my office from the bottom floor, I stop at the bottom of the stairwell and hold the fire door wide open--then I release the door and try to run up the flight to the door at the top before the door at the bottom finally closes all the way. A short, maybe ten second race against the time it takes the bottom door to close. That is the "tiger" that motivates the rush and speed. Then it's another 30 feet to my office where I sit back and recover.

I walk in the woods near my house and when it's not muddy I have added sprints. I honestly haven't run since I was a teenager. I was like, "I'm 50 can I even run anymore?" Turns out I can and it feels so good. I run as far and as fast as I can and then when I regain my breath walking I do it again. My dad used to always tell me "you have to get your car on the freeway once in a while and blow all the crud out", this is what I always think of when I'm running. 🚗 🏃🏼‍♂️ I lift heavyweight three times a week, I do yoga and I walk/ sprint in the woods. I certainly don't feel like I thought a 50-year-old should feel, I feel exactly like I did when I was 20 as long as I keep moving.

This is the stuff I and a lot of people have done when we were young kids. Just sprint out of no where and feel the rush.

We stress all day long, so the rest of the day when your experience stress..breathe deep and exhale like he said, slower than the intake. The body will react like when you did the sprint. You can do this without the sprint practice, but it works faster with it. You can also run in place if you don’t want to do this in public. If you can’t run, hyper ventilate like you’re running, sitting up at least, better to stand. Then lay down and do the breathing exercise. It works! It helps your overall well being to relieve your body of stress hormones and get the good ones flowing.

It’s refreshing to see people claim whatever they want in the name of science. I’m sure there will be a book on this soon!

After years of being in fight or flight mode and now trying to maintain my triggers and get out of "fight or flight. This was the best thing I've come across.

That explains a lot. I have adhd and I cope with intense bursts of exercise followed by relaxed breathing. I'm nearly 40 and Iook and move like I'm 15-20 years younger

“These are dumb cells” that’s a wild statement because they’re in fact not dumb cells

This is called 30/60's or 60/120's. It is sprinting for 30 seconds or 60 seconds, then resting for double that time. It helps your run time, and if you keep doing this, you will see your weakness (running) start to become your strength. I will tell you, we did this in the US Army, and I miss my old self. I would do 2 mile runs in 10:52 seconds, 81 push-ups in two minutes, 82 situps in two minutes. Not bad for a 5 foot 6 180 pound guy. I am stronger overall now but the old me had stamina for days. I miss just running and being bored after 30 minutes. I wasn't gassed, I just wanted to drive my car because it was faster.
