In the military we were trained to bring a knife to every gun fight. Especially a bayonet for the unfortunate event that you heard the order "fix bayonets." One of my drill sergeants said, "if you hear fix bayonets, be prepared to die because the other side probably still has ammunition.

Yes, a fire arm is superior to a knife. However, the properly trained individual will be versed in the use of both and also versed in unarmed combat.

I don't know what goes through the heads of those who think the firearm is the only thing they need. Unless you are paranoid, you probably do not shower or sleep with a firearm. Firearms jam and run out of ammunition, which adds to the situations in which one might have to engage in armed or unarmed hand to hand combat

The number of people who own firearms who are not properly trained leads to those who lock up or mis fire their firearm. These are the ones who think their firearm will save them only to find out they were no better off than not having a firearm.

Regardless of what people like Jason say, the person properly trained in self-defense has made it their lifestyle and is training in all manners of viable combat.
