I’m redoing my hardwood floors. Sanding floors and trying to pick the best paint stain! I rented big sanding drums and edge sanders. Everyone told me not to do this but I wanted to try it! Do you think it will be worth it??? #homereno #diyhomerenovation #remodel #homeprojects #construction #diy #renovation

I heard that if you sand diagonally it’s supposed to be more even. Also the test batches are a great idea. I have nothing really constructive to say but I’ll be cheering you guys on! I hope they come out absolutely amazing and even if it’s not perfect atleast it was you who did it. As far as your content goes I think you‘ll do wonderfully though

You need to add moisture back to the wood before sealing for even results. They sell them at home Depot and Lowe's.

Thank you for being real about House projects. I saw so many videos of people making home renovations look so easy and approachable. It. Is. Hard. It takes more time than you think it will. Tools are expensive even if you are just renting them. I thought I was gonna renovate my starter home in a week… we didn’t even finish painting in that time. It’s been 3 years now, we never got around to repainting the bathrooms and the time and money we thought we would spend on pretty cosmetic changes went to maintenance and repairs.

girl, as an experienced home renevator (renovated 3, built 2) leave the floors to the professionals. trust me, paying for it saves you health and money.

the wood actually looks great as it was with a glossy finish! It gives a comfy and cozy vibe to the house, but if you're going towards more modern house vibes, I think the sandy whitish wood looks great as well. Good luck with this project!!

We paid someone to do ours and there’s hairs stuck under the poly that drive me nuts and some chips. We ended up having them just poly over the wood’s natural color instead of a stain and I do love the color.

Use a hardwax oil floor finish - if you hate the glossy look like I do. Don’t stain, keep that natural color. It’ll feel much more real and traditional, which also compliments modern decoration styles. Sure it’s easier to blemish, but it also is easier to repair (and looks more natural when it wears if you can embrace some character)

I appreciate that you educate yourself, try new things, see what works and what doesn't, and figure out a way to construct what you really want. In a way, you're like a home scientist.

Oh gosh - the original floor color was rich and beautiful. It was a timeless color. It's a shame you changed it!

I would just preserve its natural color. This wood gives some warm feeling in this open space concept.
