My great grandmother kept all her dance cards in a box. When she passed the box ended up with my grandmother who put it in the closet and never thought about it again. She passed away at 110 and I found the box when we cleaned her house out. I have them on display.

The waltz was actually considered a forbidden dance for a while because of how close the dancers had to be

idk why, but its funny to see that also back then, some people also couldn't figure out how to make their signatures look fancy 😂

That's what it meant when people say my dance card is full.

When I was in elementary school we learned how to social dance and had dance cards. I loved that experience and in collage my friends hosted and put on a dance that we all dressed up in pride and prejudice era outfits and dances. Fond memories

That’s so fun! I feel like here in the US we only ever learn about the culture of England during this time period, when there’s so much interesting info to learn about our own country from back then!! Thank you for sharing this because I’ve never heard of dance cards before!

I remember the scene is A Court of Fey and Flowers, a Fey/regency mashup, where K. P. Hobb, an enormous furry Bug Bear, eats his dance card after the object of his affections signs it, both as a way of having the signed card as close to his heart as possible, and as a way of ensuring nobody else could ask him to dance.

It’s a perfect microcosm of the story as a whole. Silly and whimsical, but also romantic and sincere.

Some of the dances I've been to have these. They give us little pencils attached to the loop as well. Though the group I go to gives both men and women have a card, which makes it easier for everyone to remember who they're scheduled to dance with.

I feel like "my dance card is full" is an idiom I've heard before, but not sure where. Lol
