Few days ago, Trump made a surprising proposal to offer automatic green cards to foreign students graduating from US colleges 👩🏻‍🎓

This was said in All-In podcast, hosted by venture capitalists Chamath Palihapitiya, Jason Calacanis, David Sacks, and David Friedberg, three of whom are immigrants.

Trump’s remarks came as he was pressed by Calacanis to “promise us you will give us more ability to import the best and brightest around the world to America”.

VCs realize the importance of retaining highly skilled international students who are graduating from top universities in the US.

VCs are big donors to Trump campaign and he doesn’t want to disappoint them.

📌 Did he mean it?

Doesn’t matter what he meant because even though he realizes the value of highly skilled students studying in US (his own companies employ people on H1B), it is very difficult to pass such bills.

📌 So, is this announcement imp?

Yes I think it is because it gives some peek into the stance behind Trumps immigrant policies. Many people don’t realize that Trumps tenure saw a major boost in green card approvals and covid relief packages going into international students and workers. He is not the worst thing that can happen for Indians right now.
