Hmm, I thought "niche" just meant the company only sells a specific product, ie. fragrance. Not sure I would call Le Labo or Creed "mainstream." Same goes for Xeroff and/or Bond no. 9. Maybe we call them "mainstream niche," but certainly not just "mainstream." Just my thoughts š

You are kind of right. In a broader scope tho. Most brands supply a "variety" of products, which makes them nolonger niche. For example, if I only sell shirts about dogs then thats a niche...if i sale shirts about dogs, food, jokes, candy, etc then no. Niche is something very specific, even if you only sell cologne thats not niche. You can however have a mainstream "niche" product. Niche isn't about popularity and availability. Its about being very very specific.

Its just a marketing ploy. The name niche comes with exclusivity and some kind of prestige. When the term niche would have outlived its usefulness they will rebrand and call it another fancy name.

Youāre making the same argument that has been made in music for decades. Indie vs mainstream. And how some bands are marketed at indie but true hobby nerds think theyāre mainstream.
The truth is every niche brand creator puts their head on a pillow hoping they wake up to throngs of people wanting their product. Itās beyond rare that someone does it purely for passion and not the pursuit of financial or social gain (often both).

Mainstream has a negative connotation and I believe you can still be niche while being mainstream/popular.
A better term would be one that describes the house to be more of one that is mass appealing as opposed to niche. Imo

I disagree. Mainstream parfums are sold everywhere. I needed to hunt down my Parfums de Marly as it is only sold in 2 stores in my larger area.

I donāt think they get itā¦niche isnāt to a large population. PDM Xerjoff etc are mainstream. Meo Fusciuni and Aura of Kazakhstan are truly niche.
