The real reason that the Australian $5 note will discontinue the monarch's portrait is due to size. The $5 note is the smallest and King Charles' ears simply will not fit.

See, since Canada and other places kept updating the queen's portrayal based on her aging, we should just continue the tradition, keep the queen on the bill but slowly turn her into a skeleton ;).

Fun fact, the Greeks had people on their money before the Romanās. For example, a good amount of coins in Athens (call drachma) had a image of Athena, pressed on one side and an owl on the other.

You need to acknowledge the difference between coinage and banknotes. The practice of having the monarchās image on coins is the older and more established practice. That practice is not changing in Australia. The practice of the monarchās image appearing on banknotes is much more recent and inconsistent ā the late Queen only ever appeared on one Australian banknote in any given series and even the banknotes of the Bank of England have only a limited history of the monarch appearing on banknotes.
