What are the best dressed horses wearing? Their tack is from champion horse pulling harness maker, Howard Harshberger. Harness making is a combination of leatherwork, artistry, physics and fashion. Around Lecompton, Kansas people would relax by competing to see which team of horses could pull the heaviest load. And they wanted to have the best dressed horse. That's where Howard's harnesses became famous. His "breastcollar" designs let the horses do their best, and look their best. Howard became a profession harness maker in 1964 and never had to advertise. At horse shows and pulling competitions people would track him down. They wanted the best dressed horse … and a pulling championship. Howard Harshberger gave them both This story aired on WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News in 1979.
